Our Commitment to Community
Our commitment to the community isn’t a corporate philanthropy or a marketing program. We live here. Our kids go to school here. Our families are part of the same communities we serve. When we invest in local schools, sponsor youth sports, or help neighbors in crisis, we’re investing in our own home.

Sherrie Johnson-Hartsock, who now leads the company, grew up watching how Lemuel approached community involvement, not as charity, but as being a good neighbor.
When you’re part of a community, you show up. You help. You participate.
Service Above Profit
When we learned about a veterans’ housing project that needed HVAC work, we donated our labor and charged only for materials. These facilities serve those who served our country, helping them was an honor, not a business decision.
When we encounter families facing genuine hardship, a broken furnace in winter they can’t afford to repair, a plumbing emergency threatening their home, we help when circumstances allow. We can’t assist everyone, but we evaluate each situation with compassion and do what we can. These aren’t stories we typically publicize; they’re simply what neighbors should do for each other.
Where We Show Up
Supporting Education
We support local schools because every child deserves real opportunities, whether through college, trade school, or apprenticeships.
- Midlothian Schools: We contribute annually to school programs, support after-school activities, and participate in career days to show students that skilled trades offer excellent careers with good pay, job security, and meaningful work.
- Cedar Hill After-School Programs: These programs keep kids engaged, safe, and learning during critical afternoon hours.
- Trade Skills Education: We host students for job shadowing, support vocational programs, and hire and train local graduates.
Youth Sports & Activities
We sponsor youth basketball, soccer, and Little League because athletics teach lessons that extend beyond the field, teamwork, resilience, handling disappointment, celebrating others' success, and showing up consistently even when you're not the star.
Youth sports also keep kids active and provide opportunities for families to connect. Strong communities are built on these relationships.
Supporting Small Business
As a small business ourselves, we understand the challenges, managing cash flow, meeting payroll, building customer loyalty, and maintaining quality during both busy and slow seasons. We want fellow small businesses to succeed.
We're active members of the Cedar Hill, Midlothian, and Grand Prairie Chambers of Commerce, attending events, serving on committees, and referring customers to other quality local businesses. When customers ask for recommendations for other trades, we refer them to the local companies we trust.
When you choose a local business over a national chain, you keep money in the community. That money supports local employees, who shop at local stores, whose owners invest in local programs. It's a cycle that strengthens everyone.
Community Organizations
We partner with the Cedar Hill Action Team because they do the unglamorous work that holds communities together, organizing volunteers, coordinating support for families in crisis, running beautification projects, making sure nobody falls through the cracks.
Every functional community has organizations like this, usually run by people who don't seek recognition but just care about their neighbors. Those people and organizations deserve support.
Environmental Responsibility
We take environmental responsibility seriously because our kids and grandkids will inherit this environment. That means properly recovering and recycling refrigerants per EPA regulations, disposing of old equipment responsibly, recommending Energy Star certified equipment when it makes sense, and educating customers about water and energy conservation.
We're not environmental activists, we're just trying to leave things better than we found them.
Supporting Our Team
None of this community involvement would be possible without our team. They're the ones showing up at customer homes, solving problems, and representing the Johnson family name every day.
We try to take care of them the way we'd want to be taken care of, fair pay for quality work, ongoing training so they can grow in their careers, family-friendly scheduling when possible, safe working conditions with proper equipment, and basic respect and dignity in the workplace.
When our team is treated well, they serve customers well. It's not complicated.
Why Local Matters
When you choose Dial One Johnson over a national chain, your payment goes to local employees who live in your community, shop at your stores, and send their kids to your schools. We buy from local suppliers when we can. Our profits stay local, reinvested in community programs and contributing to the tax base that funds schools, roads, and emergency services.
Strong communities support local businesses. Successful local businesses reinvest in communities. It works when everyone participates.

Moving Forward
Dial One Cares isn’t a campaign with a start date and end date. It’s just how we operate. As long as we’re in business, we’ll keep showing up, supporting local schools, sponsoring youth activities, partnering with community organizations, helping neighbors when we can, and being the kind of business we’d want operating in our own neighborhood.
The community made our success possible 60 years ago. We won’t forget that.
